Lawn topdressing is a mixture of plant-based compounds and sandy materials that is applied after scarifying the lawn. Scarifying is a process that is usually done in the spring or fall. Scarifying breaks up the top layer of the lawn to loosen the thatch and the humus layer. After this process, it is advisable to apply the topdressing to encourage the lawn to produce new shoots and become thicker.
